Shelley Catherine Hennig crowned Miss Teen 2004   PDF  Print  E-mail 

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- August 6, 2004 –- This evening, during one of the year's most exciting live television events, a star-studded panel of judges chose Shelley Catherine Hennig, Miss Louisiana Teen USA, as MISS TEEN USA® 2004.

The 17-year-old contestant from Destrehan, Louisiana was crowned at the conclusion of the live telecast on the NBC Television Network from beautiful Palm Springs, California. This High School Senior at Destrehan High School is an accomplished writer of poetry and children's books.


The telecast was hosted by Access Hollywood's Tony Potts, and Vanessa Minnillo Miss Teen USA 1998 and host of Total Request Live (TRL). During the telecast, multi-platinum R&B artist Brandy provided a special performance of her song "Who Is She 2 U," a new single off her latest album, and famed former member of 'N Sync and solo-artist JC Chasez,; performed "Build My World," a single from his debut album.

The telecast panel was comprised of Rachel Boston, star of NBC'S American Dreams; Alison Sweeney, star of NBC'S Days of Our Lives; actress and supermodel Carlye Nabers; Shauna Gambil, Miss Teen USA 1994; Carolyn Kepcher of NBC'S The Apprentice; William Morris Agent, John Ferriter; Host of E! News Live, Alisha Davis; from the Tonight Show w/Jay Leno, Ross "The Intern" Mathews; Jonathan Antin, star of Bravo's Blow Out; Kathy Mellor, National Teacher Of The Year; Scott Steindorff, an Executive Producer of NBC'S Las Vegas and Fashion Editor at Teen People Magazine, Jorge Ramon.

Throughout the two-hour event, the delegates competed in three categories, including swimsuit, evening gown and interview.

Final Results:
First Runner Up: Sonya Balmores,, Miss Hawaii Teen USA 2004, will assume the duties of MISS TEEN USA 2004 if the titleholder for some reason cannot fulfill her responsibilities.
Second Runner Up: Helen Marie Salas, Miss Nevada Teen USA 2004

Third Runner Up: Amanda Williams, Miss Maryland Teen USA 2004

Fourth Runner Up: Tiffany Stroud, Miss Tennessee Teen USA 2004

# Photogenic Award: Sarah Sutton French, Miss Arkansa Teen USA 2004. The general public voted on www.nbc.com for the delegate who exemplifies beauty through the lens of a camera. A $1,000 cash prize and a commemorative Preciosa Crystal Trophy, valued at $3,500 was awarded.

# Congeniality Award: Breanna Ranae Abernathey, Miss North Dakota USA 2004. The award, sponsored by Preciosa reflects the respect and admiration of the delegate's peers, who voted for her as the most congenial, charismatic and inspirational participant. $1,000 cash prize and a commemorative Crystal Trophy, valued at $3,500 was awarded to the delegate selected by her fellow delegates.
