ACTRESS Sophie Monk will cast off the ditzy blonde bombshell image that catapulted her to fame in order to play her first starring role in a Hollywood film.
Forget the gratuitous bikini shots and bimbo pin-up looks the Aussie star has maximised since landing in LA – her next turn on the big screen will be as a manipulative woman who has a "dark inner turmoil".
After solidly building her profile and CV by appearing in US funny flicks Date Movie and Adam Sandler's Click, Monk has been selected to play the female lead in the US independent film Pearblossom.Little known director Ron Carlson has cast the vivacious Aussie in the big screen project, which has reportedly been selected to screen at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in 2008.
From her base on location in the Californian desert, Monk is currently pouring her heart and soul into portraying the role of "Brooke" – described in the film's character notes as being a "bitchy, jealous and carnal woman".
The former Bardot pop princess is wisely looking at the opportunity to shed her happy-go-lucky image with gratitude.
"From a professional point of view, Sophie can't wait to take on the challenge of playing a lead role like this – it's a great challenge for her," Monk's Sydney-based agent told
said."I know she thinks the film is really cool."
In demand overseas and closer to home, the leggy blonde has been given a leave pass from the Pearblossom set to dash back to Sydney for the campaign launch of lingerie line Pleasure State in mid June.
